HUMID TEMPERATE

The HUMID TEMPERATE ecoregion covers a broad area, including nearly all of the eastern half of the United States and all of the Pacific coast and costal mountain range from southern CALIFORNIA up through southeast ALASKA.

Due to its large area of coverage along both the eastern Atlantic and western Pacific coasts, as well as throughout continental eastern U.S., several different biomes make up this ecoregion.  Terrestrial biomes include the following:

  • Temperate Deciduous Forests (primarily in the east)
  • Temperate Rainforest (along the northwest coast)
  • Coniferous Forests (primarily in the north)
  • Subtropical (in the southeast)
  • Alpine Mountains (on the Pacific coast)
  • Temperate Grasslands (in the prairie heartland of the U.S.)
  • Chaparral (in Mediterranean California).

Naturally by its very geographical location this ecoregion also includes both Freshwater, with its numerous lakes and ponds, rivers and streams, and wetlands, and Marine aquatic biomes.

See below for a list of National Parks and other parks, natural areas, and forests within this ecoregion represented in my photos.
